20 “Renewal Locomotives” delivered to Vietnam

Implementing the project of buying 40 “Renewal Locomotives”, Vietnam Railway Corporation (VNR) signed the contract of importing these locomotives from Ziyang Locomotive Work (China). In the years 2001 & 2002, the work delivered 20 locomotives to VNR and the ceremony of receiving the 20 remaining ones has recently held at Lao Cai border station.
Present at the receiving ceremony were Mr Trieu Tieu Cuong - Director General of Nam Phuong Rolling Stock Corporation (China), Mr Nguyen Huu Bang - Director General of VNR; representatives of Lao Cai province, Planning & Investment Ministry, Vietnam Registry Administration and other relevant units.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Bang emphasized: In the past 15-year renovation process, the railway sector gained fast development speed, average increase of transport revenue was 10% per year. VNR recently bought locomotives of China, India and the project of buying locomotives from German is being carried out. With the number of locomotives provided by Ziyang Locomotive Work in the years 2001 & 2002, VNR currently brings into full play its transport capacity: operation ratio is 80% (90% at Tet holiday), train-running safety is high and fuel consumption is at low level, etc.
On this occasion, Mr Bang also highly appreciated the efforts made by Ziyang Locomotive Work and partners in completing the works of manufacturing, assembling, testing the previous 20 locomotives and holding training courses for Vietnamese technical staffs as well as delivering the locomotives in due course.
Regarding the responsibilities of each side, Mr Bang said: The two sides need pay attention to technical adjustment, pilotly put these locomotives into operation on some railway lines and continuously train technical staffs for the good operation of them in the near future.
